East Kilbride Eagles Roller Hockey Club

The following is the experience of the East Kilbride Eagles Roller Hockey Club of setting up the Disclosure checking process in their club.

"Our League FSHA (Fife Skater Hockey Association) demanded that all league officials who were involved with Youths had to be Central Registered Body in Scotland (CRBS) Checked.

We had a committee meeting to address among other things this new CRBS MONSTER - it was quite funny how everyone became very busy and had no more time to spare!

I took the booklets and associated paperwork home and realised that as a club we had a lot of work to do. We had to get our constitution up to date. We also had to write child protection policies (It was a good job that my boss was away on business trips!).

After a few calls to the CRBS and a few more visits to the web-site we thought we were ready to go. I gathered up all the documents and went to the Stirling office where those CRBS Monsters turned out to be very nice and helpful people!

In due course the forms and my registration number arrived. Thinking we had cracked it, we filled in the forms (that is forms for all club officials that deal with youths: Team Managers, Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and League Officials, i.e. Time Keepers, Referees and Assistant Referees).

Of the forms that we sent away all were returned. More phone calls, more forms filled in. This time only two came back. During this period I found the CRBS a great help - full of advice and guidance.

On our second attempt we found the whole exercise a lot easier and only two forms came back.

Later this year we will be filling out applications again. I am confident that we will get all applications through first time.

It was a large undertaking in the first instance to get our club in shape but child protection definitely becomes easier with experience and it is all our duties to ensure the safety of ALL our children.
