Scottish Swimming

Scottish Swimming has all child protection powers enshrined in the constitution of the SGB. A three-year implementation plan has been devised. Training events are run annually in partnership with CHILDREN 1ST and sportscotland which includes training for coaches and club child protection co-ordinators. Staff report on Child Protection matters to the Chief Executive Officer every three months.

Each club's constitution requires the implementation of a child protection policy. All clubs have been issued with child protection guidelines which include a Code of Conduct. Information about child protection is shared through a quarterly newsletter for clubs, via the Scottish Swimming website and links to other websites. Child Protection advice is available 24 hours a day.

Monitoring takes place through questionnaires sent to club child protection co-ordinators.

Scottish Swimming's Lead Child Protection Co-ordinator attends CHILDREN 1ST and sportscotland's Scottish Governing Bodies' Group for Child Protection Co-ordinators (a cross-sport group formed to share expertise, knowledge and experience of protecting children in sport).

Scottish Swimming signed up to the 2006 Accord in February 2007.
