Angus Council in partnership with Angus Sports Council

ACE SCHEME
Angus Council, in partnership with Angus Sports Council, has developed an accreditation scheme to help clubs with development, organisation and to allow the public to recognise a quality 'child-friendly' club. The ACE award has three stages to allow clubs in Angus to work up through the levels with the aim of achieving a 'Gold Award', the highest standard. Each award has specific elements attached, with child protection being a core element of each stage. The benefits of achieving each award include free training opportunities and publicity for the club aimed at raising their profile in the local community.

Resources and support in the process are made available to clubs from the Club Development Officer and Angus Council Sports Services Division. The scheme recognises other accreditation schemes in that, if a club has already gained a National Governing Body accreditation award, then the appropriate level of ACE Award will be presented.

"I thought it was a very useful tool to
help us bring all our existing policies together
and to help us focus on improvement"
BROTHIC SHOTOKAN KARATE CLUB

Angus Council has linked the scheme to their letting policy in that a club must be at the Silver level if it is to be granted a let on council facilities. This has been one key way for Angus council to ensure that clubs using council facilities are of a certain quality and are taking their Child Protection obligations seriously.

Development of the child protection aspects of the award criteria, was done in consultation with CHILDREN 1ST.
